Into the life of Mugs Stump, pioneer mountaineer.

Mugs Stump like many mountaineers before him and many mountaineers after him, will stand apart  as part of a breed that is difficult to comprehend.
And for the average person, quite mad.
For the average person all that they cannot do, is mad.

On the list of  mad mountaineers ,Mugs Stump was as mad as they come.

Some scary mixed climbing.

What's the margin of error possible when doing routes like this? Very small indeed. Are they crazy? Probably a little but what they have lots of is -ability.

Steph Davis says' the risk factor is relative to your ability.'  The reason she is always laughing and smiling in her free solo climbing videos!

Using Quickdraws safely.

Wrong clipping a quick draw can be fatal. We can make mistakes when we are are stretched and desperate to clip quickly.
Getting into a stable position  before you  clip is vital- it will prevent a nasty accident.
There are other things to keep in mind about using quickdraws and DMM has some sterling suggestions. Climb safe!

Are you an Alpinist ?

This excellent post troubled me as I failed to make the grade.

Find out.

Even super stars have bad days!

Peaks and valleys in performance are rare, for superstar climbers like Adam Ondra. But give him a break he is still human, well almost.

Dropping weight will zoom your performance in nearly any sport and save money!

" Weight-conscious road bikers will shell out thousands of dollars for carbon-fiber road bikes that are merely a pound (or less) lighter than their cheaper aluminum counterparts. I always laugh at the irony of seeing old, fat, bulbous-shaped rich guys, who are crammed into spandex, riding the lightest $10,000 road bikes on the market. Apparently, it’s easier to drop 10 G’s than drop a pound off themselves. "
